From Treatmaker to Software Founder: Why I Built Sweet Price OS

I never planned to build software. I planned to build desserts. Software is what happened after my treat business ended.

I did not lose my business because I was a bad baker. I lost it with no records, no cost history, and no real understanding of my own numbers, and that is the part I could not stop thinking about.

2019: I started because I loved it

I started KB Treat Shop in 2019 because I loved making desserts. That part was never the problem. Orders came in, people were happy, and from the outside it looked like things were working.

Behind the scenes, I priced the way most treatmakers price: by feel. I looked at what other people in my area were charging, adjusted a little, and hoped it worked out at the end of the month. I want to be honest about that, because I think a lot of people are told founders had it figured out from the start. I did not. Pricing was not something I mastered while I was running my business. It was the thing I kept meaning to sit down and figure out.

Then a tree fell on my home

I ran my business out of my home, so when a tree came down on it, everything stopped at once. Not slowed down. Stopped. I refunded customers. Orders ended. My business was over.

I am not telling you this for sympathy, and the tree is not really the story. The story is what I was left holding afterward. I did not have organized systems. I did not have detailed numbers. I did not have anything I could pick up and restart somewhere else. Years of work, and almost none of it existed outside of my own head, my phone notes, and my memory.

When everything stopped at once, I finally saw the shape of what I had actually built. And it was fragile.

The question I could not put down

Once things settled, I kept asking myself one question: what actually caused this business to fail?

It was not the baking. It was not customer service. It was not my products. People loved my products. The answer was harder than that. I never truly understood my numbers, and I never built systems around my business. When the unexpected happened, there was nothing underneath me to catch it.

  • No ingredient cost records, so I never knew when my costs moved
  • No recipe costs, only rough guesses that lived in my head
  • No labor or overhead in my prices, so my time was free without me deciding it
  • No clear view of what was profitable and what was quietly costing me

After the business ended, I got obsessed with pricing

This is the part of the timeline people get backwards. I did not learn pricing and then lose my business. I lost my business and then learned pricing. I went and did the work I had been putting off for four years: ingredients, labor, overhead, profit, all of it, properly, until I could not un-see it.

And once I understood it, I could not stop talking about it, because I kept meeting treatmakers standing exactly where I had been standing. Busy, talented, exhausted, and quietly unsure whether any of it was making money.

Teaching, TikTok Lives, and e-books

Helping one baker turned into helping a lot of them. TikTok Lives where we walked through real numbers out loud. Pricing e-books so the formula was written down somewhere they could keep. Answering the same questions over and over, because they were the same questions I had never asked myself in time.

It helped. But I kept watching the same thing happen: people understood the formula on Monday and were back to guessing by the next custom order. Not because they were lazy. Because a PDF cannot remember your butter price, and a spreadsheet falls apart the moment life gets busy.

Eventually it clicked. People did not need another spreadsheet or another PDF. They needed something that would do the work with them.

Sweet Price OS is the next step, not a new idea

    Sweet Price OS

Software that does the math with you and remembers it for you.

So no, I did not become a software founder because I wanted to build software. I built Sweet Price OS because I am still trying to solve the exact problem that ended my own business, just for someone else this time. If I had never gone through what I went through, this would not exist.

What I want you to take from this

You do not have to lose something to learn this lesson. That is the whole reason I write any of it down. Talent brings customers. Systems build businesses. Your numbers are not a chore you will get to later, they are the floor everything else stands on.

If your prices are a guess right now, you are not behind and you are not bad at this. You are exactly where I was in 2019. The difference is you get to fix it while your business is still open.

Stop guessing your prices

Sweet Price OS turns ingredient costs, labor, and overhead into a profitable selling price in seconds. Free to start.
